Weekly Reflection: Your Future Is Built by Today’s Choices

I’ve spent enough years chasing big moments to realise that most meaningful change doesn’t arrive with fireworks.

It arrives quietly.

In the choices nobody applauds.

The alarm that goes off and you choose to get up.

The workout you nearly skipped.

The difficult conversation you finally have.

The page you write when you don’t feel inspired.

The promise you keep to yourself.

Looking back, I can honestly say that my life has been shaped far more by ordinary days than extraordinary ones.

That’s both humbling and encouraging.

Humbling because it removes the fantasy that one perfect opportunity will suddenly change everything.

Encouraging because it means today matters far more than we often realise.

For a long time, I thought becoming my best self was some distant destination.

Something I would eventually arrive at once life became easier, once I had more confidence, more money, more certainty, or more experience.

But life has taught me something different.

Your best self isn’t waiting somewhere in the future.

Your best self is built one decision at a time.

Every day you have opportunities to strengthen your character.

To become more patient.

More disciplined.

More generous.

More courageous.

These aren’t qualities you suddenly wake up with one morning.

They’re qualities you practise.

I’ve also realised that we often spend too much time staring at the things blocking us.

The obstacle.

The fear.

The uncertainty.

The closed door.

Meanwhile, we’ve forgotten that we already hold the key.

We already know the next conversation we need to have.

The habit we need to build.

The excuse we need to let go of.

The opportunity we need to embrace.

We don’t always lack direction.

Sometimes we simply lack the willingness to turn the key.

What gives me hope is knowing that life doesn’t demand perfection.

It asks for participation.

It asks us to keep growing.

To keep choosing what aligns with the person we’re becoming rather than the comfort we’re trying to protect.

Some days those choices feel insignificant.

But I’ve learned never to underestimate the power of small, repeated actions.

One workout won’t transform your health.

One kind word won’t transform a relationship.

One page won’t write a book.

But repeated enough times, those small choices become a new identity.

And identities shape destinies.

So as you step into this week, don’t ask yourself how to change your entire life overnight.

Ask something simpler.

What’s one choice today that my future self will thank me for?

Then make it.

Tomorrow, make another.

And the day after that, another still.

Because remarkable lives are rarely built through remarkable moments.

They’re built through ordinary choices, made extraordinarily well.

“It was truly a wonderful read and something I think everyone will resonate with in one way or another. I particularly enjoyed how Ravi noted the elements of anxiety showing up in all areas of Maya's life, a relatable topic to whoever is reading. The topics of accepting uncertainty and growth coming from being uncomfortable really hit home, as these are core life lessons. I would highly recommend this eBook to everybody, as there are multiple important lessons that can be taken away and actioned (especially with the worksheet at the end!) A great read with a fantastic message for all ages.”

"Rarely do you find a book that is this easy to read yet this hard to forget. Ravi has created a relatable, honest guide for the person standing in front of the mirror wondering 'what now?' It’s a roadmap for the transition, built on the reality that while we might not know our destination, we can no longer stay where we are. Insightful, gentle, and profoundly practical."

“Ravi is a passionate spiritually aligned coach and author. “Forged by fire - the river bends” is a modern day fable that takes one on a journey of self discovery and empowerment. The style is reminiscent of Paulo Coelho and also chimed with Deepak Chopra’s 13th Disciple in its powerful story telling with clear messaging. Awakening to our true potential is surely our greatest gift to ourselves and this book will be a most valuable guide.
