Weekly Reflection: Stop Negotiating with the Life You Want

There was a time when I believed motivation was the missing piece.

I thought if I could just feel inspired every morning, everything else would fall into place.

Then life taught me a different lesson.

Motivation is a wonderful visitor.

Discipline is the friend who stays.

I’ve had days when I couldn’t wait to work on my goals. Everything felt possible. The energy was there. The vision was clear.

I’ve also had plenty of days when none of that showed up.

The difference wasn’t talent.

It wasn’t luck.

It was whether I had built the habit of showing up anyway.

That’s when I realised discipline isn’t punishment.

It’s one of the highest forms of self-respect.

It’s choosing the future version of yourself over the comfort of your present mood.

It’s saying, “I care enough about the life I’m building that I’m willing to disappoint my excuses.”

And let’s be honest—our excuses can be incredibly convincing.

“I’ll start next Monday.”

“I’ll wait until things calm down.”

“I’m just not feeling it today.”

I’ve used every one of them.

Maybe you have too.

The problem is that procrastination always sends the bill to your future self.

The work doesn’t disappear.

The difficult conversation doesn’t disappear.

The dream doesn’t disappear.

It simply waits… while the cost of delay quietly increases.

I’ve also learned to be careful with self-pity.

Not because difficult seasons aren’t real—they are.

Loss hurts.

Failure hurts.

Disappointment hurts.

Those experiences deserve to be acknowledged.

But there’s a difference between feeling pain and building an identity around it.

Pain can teach you.

Self-pity convinces you to stay where you fell.

Growth asks something different.

It asks you to stand.

Then take one step.

Then another.

Not because the road suddenly became easy, but because you’ve decided your future matters more than your excuses.

The older I get, the more I believe that extraordinary lives are built through ordinary acts of consistency.

Lacing up your shoes when you don’t feel like exercising.

Opening the laptop when you’d rather scroll.

Making the phone call you’ve been avoiding.

Keeping a promise you made to yourself.

None of these moments look impressive on their own.

But together, they become a life.

So if you’re waiting for the perfect time, consider this your reminder:

It already came.

It looked remarkably like today.

Lace up.

Take the next step.

Your goals have been waiting long enough.

“It was truly a wonderful read and something I think everyone will resonate with in one way or another. I particularly enjoyed how Ravi noted the elements of anxiety showing up in all areas of Maya's life, a relatable topic to whoever is reading. The topics of accepting uncertainty and growth coming from being uncomfortable really hit home, as these are core life lessons. I would highly recommend this eBook to everybody, as there are multiple important lessons that can be taken away and actioned (especially with the worksheet at the end!) A great read with a fantastic message for all ages.”

"Rarely do you find a book that is this easy to read yet this hard to forget. Ravi has created a relatable, honest guide for the person standing in front of the mirror wondering 'what now?' It’s a roadmap for the transition, built on the reality that while we might not know our destination, we can no longer stay where we are. Insightful, gentle, and profoundly practical."

“Ravi is a passionate spiritually aligned coach and author. “Forged by fire - the river bends” is a modern day fable that takes one on a journey of self discovery and empowerment. The style is reminiscent of Paulo Coelho and also chimed with Deepak Chopra’s 13th Disciple in its powerful story telling with clear messaging. Awakening to our true potential is surely our greatest gift to ourselves and this book will be a most valuable guide.
